Cary, N.C. (February 9, 2016) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, is renewing its focus on making a difference in communities across North Carolina with new leadership for its statewide operations. Robert (Bobby) Lewis, P.E., recently appointed office executive, now oversees the company’s offices in Cary, Asheville, Greensboro and Charlotte, which serve as the home for nearly 70 engineering, design, aviation and planning experts.
His appointment comes at a time when a number of North Carolina’s key metropolitan areas anticipate substantial population growth in the coming decades.
“Michael Baker’s local focus means we are prepared for the escalating demand for environmental planning, design and construction inspection work as the state improves its infrastructure assets,” said Dave Thompson, regional director for Michael Baker’s Mid-Atlantic Region. “Bobby’s distinguished and extensive career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and his experience leading projects in many of its counties further positions Michael Baker as a strong partner for stakeholders who have an eye on the state’s future needs and are charged with meeting them.”
Lewis spent nearly 25 years in progressive roles for NCDOT. Most recently, he served as the department’s chief of staff in Raleigh, where he spearheaded legislative revenue reform efforts to increase NCDOT’s annual budget.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University.
