Hamilton, N.J. (November 15, 2018) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, announced that Dan Barone, Ph.D., GISP, CFM, Senior Associate and Coastal and Environmental Department Manager, was elected president of the Northeast Shore and Beach Preservation Association (NSBPA). NSBPA is the Northeast chapter of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA), an organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and enhancing the coasts by merging science and public policy. Dr. Barone is based in Michael Baker's Hamilton, N.J., office. As a chapter president, he also serves as a member of the national board of directors of ASBPA.
With nearly 15 years of experience addressing coastal zone management and resilience issues related to beach-dune storm vulnerability, maritime transportation, coastal floodplain mapping and wetland restoration, Dr. Barone utilizes spatial data analysis, remote sensing and coastal modeling techniques to solve complex coastal problems and present solutions to various audiences.
He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in marine science and instructional technology from Stockton University and a Ph.D. in physical geography from Rutgers University. He is also a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) and Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP).
"I am honored to have been elected president of the NSBPA to help provide guidance for the overall planning and management of our region's shores and beaches," said Dr. Barone. "I look forward to contributing to the ASBPA strategic plan and to assisting our communities as we work to achieve healthier and more resilient coastal systems."
The NSBPA represents members from coastal states from Maine to New Jersey. Dr. Barone's term as president will begin in January 2019.
