Alexandria, Va. (February 17, 2016) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, today announces that Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mid-Atlantic magazine recently recognized one of the company’s rising stars as a “20 Under 40” honoree. Allison Westlund, a project manager in Michael Baker’s Alexandria, Va. office, earned the accolade as an up-and-coming industry leader based on her career progress, commitment to her community and involvement in landmark and sustainable projects.
In her role with Michael Baker, Westlund is the project management director for a team that provides support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Risk Mapping Assessment and Planning program. The team offers planning and outreach expertise to help communities reduce or mitigate their risk of flooding. As a certified floodplain manager, Westlund honed her skills and expertise during Flood Map Modernization, a multi-year presidential initiative to improve and update the nation’s flood hazard maps. She led the coordination and reviews for flood insurance rate map revisions in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin by working with engineering professionals at state and local levels.
“Allison combines a collaborative attitude with broad programmatic and technical expertise to garner the trust and support of her peers and clients alike, enabling her to lead programs for federal government and municipal agencies on behalf of Michael Baker International,” said Andrea Ryon, vice president and office executive for Michael Baker’s Alexandria office. “As her career and responsibilities have grown at Michael Baker, Allison continues to define what a ’20 Under 40’ honoree should exemplify.”
“The opportunities that I have been afforded at Michael Baker have helped to shape who I am both personally and professionally, because I’ve been able to play a central role in making a difference for important clients, such as FEMA,” said Westlund. “I am honored that ENR has recognized my efforts.”
Outside the office, Westlund remains committed to supporting her community and natural surroundings. She lends her time as a member of the board of directors of Friends of Bluestone, Inc., an organization that supports Bluestone Camp and Retreat. Bluestone is located in the mountains overlooking Bluestone Lake in Hinton, West Virginia and provides nature-based character-building experiences for children and youth.
ENR profiled Westlund and the other “20 Under 40” honorees in a recent edition of the magazine.
