White Plains, N.Y. (March 11, 2020) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services celebrating 80 Years of Making a Difference, is pleased to share that Shravya Markandeya, P.E., PTOE, P.T.P., has been named “Young Engineer of the Year” by the Westchester/Putnam Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers. This award is given annually to a local engineer under the age of 35 who has made significant contributions to the engineering profession. Ms. Markandeya, a Senior Engineer – Traffic in Michael Baker’s White Plains office, was honored at the annual Engineer’s Week Awards Dinner, where she also received a proclamation from Westchester County.

Ms. Markandeya has more than 11 years of experience designing and leading traffic engineering and transportation planning projects in the Northeast Region (New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Jersey). Her projects include arterial and intersection traffic analyses, feasibility studies, traffic signal design, traffic impact studies, Work Zone Traffic Control design, transportation management plans, traffic control devices and accident and safety analyses. She has worked on numerous regionally significant projects including the $8 billion LaGuardia redevelopment program and has served as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Engineer and reviewed projects as a consultant to various municipalities in New York State. Prior to joining Michael Baker in 2017, Ms. Markandeya held roles as a Senior Transportation Engineer/Project Manager at VHB and a Design Engineer at WSP USA.
Ms. Markandeya received her B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, and her M.Eng in Civil Engineering (Transportation Systems) from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. She is a member of the Work Zone Simulation Subcommittee of the Transportation Research Board's Standing Committee on Work Zone Traffic Control. She serves as an ambassador for the Harvard Business Analytics Program and as a Women in Construction ambassador for New York Build; has been recognized as an ENR New York Top Young Professional (2019) and American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New York Young Professional of the Year (2019); and is a member of ACEC, Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Transportation Research Board (TRB) and Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS).
