Baker Selected for PennDOT East Ohio Street Improvement Contract

Pittsburgh (April 22, 2014) - Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker International, has been awarded a five-year contract by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), District 11-0, to provide engineering design services for SR 4084, Section A04 East Ohio Street from East Street to Chestnut Street in the City of Pittsburgh, Pa.  The contract award demonstrates Baker’s continual pursuit of and growth in regional transportation infrastructure project opportunities.

“We are very pleased with our selection for this important transportation improvement project in the City of Pittsburgh,” said Baker’s John Tricini, P.E., PLS, project manager.  “We look forward to working with our valued and long-standing client, PennDOT District 11, to deliver successful transportation improvements that make Pittsburgh more livable, and the local community and project stakeholders proud.”

Specifically, Baker will oversee preliminary engineering, final design and construction phase services for the roadway reconstruction and bridge preservation.  The cross-section of services Baker and its team of subconsultants will deliver includes bridge inspection, roadway design, structural design, geotechnical investigation, utility coordination, maintenance and protection of traffic, signing and pavement marking plan, drainage design, pavement design, paint evaluation, field surveys, environmental documentation, and public involvement services.

Baker has extensive knowledge of the area through various recent projects such as the adjacent SR 28 East Ohio Street Improvements and the I-579 Crosstown Boulevard Bridge Preservation project.  This broad experience will help minimize impacts during construction and provide effective permanent solutions.
