Pittsburgh (May 15, 2014) - Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker International, has been awarded a Professional Services Agreement by CSX Intermodal Terminals, Inc. (CSXIT) to provide construction management and inspection services for its Trans-Shipment Terminal Expansion Project in North Baltimore, Ohio. Additionally, Baker will provide engineering review services during the construction phases of projects. CSXIT has issued Baker the first work order under this agreement. CSXIT is expanding the original terminal, completed in 2011, due to increased intermodal container traffic. This award demonstrates Baker’s continued growth in the rail and transit market and is the Company’s initial agreement to provide professional services to CSXIT.
At North Baltimore, Ohio, Baker will support managing the expansion of the terminal process area that includes extending eight process tracks and the crane rails by 2,300 linear feet, as well as extensions of the container stacking areas, the mechanical, electrical, lighting and communications systems for the facility. The project also includes an additional 10,000-foot-long receiving and departing track and other additional support tracks. Two additional wide-span cranes will be added as part of this expansion program. Construction started on the North Baltimore, Ohio, project in March 2014 and scheduled for completion by the end of 2014.
Baker’s Thomas Zagorski, P.E., senior vice president and national practice lead for Construction Services said, “We are extremely pleased to be selected for this first-time assignment for CSXIT on such a critical project. We are confident that our construction management experience with intermodal terminal expansion projects will prove to be beneficial to CSXIT in bringing this project, as well as other projects assigned under this agreement, to successful completion.”
