Michael Baker International's Brian Russell Named to Engineering News-Record Southeast's "Top Young Professionals"

Honor Recognizes Engineer Making a Difference to Grow Firm's Jacksonville Presence

Jacksonville, Fla. (March 9, 2017) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, today announced that Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southeast magazine recently recognized Brian Russell as a “Top Young Professionals” honoree. Mr. Russell, a vice president and office executive in Michael Baker’s Jacksonville, Florida, office, and one of the company’s rising stars, earned the accolade as an up-and-coming industry leader based on his career success, commitment to his community and involvement in landmark and sustainable projects.

In his role with Michael Baker, Mr. Russell oversees the firm’s Jacksonville office, providing budget and financial management, strategic planning and leadership to the office’s multi-discipline and technical teams. Since assuming the position in 2014, Mr. Russell has helped the office double its net revenue and profitability and launched four new business lines to serve clients in a more productive manner. As an outside-the-box thinker, Mr. Russell greatly improved his office’s project win rate by creatively enhancing proposals and presentations that deeply and personally connect with the firm’s growing client and prospect base. Recently, Mr. Russell helped to procure a $40 million contract for the design of the Jacksonville Regional Transit Center.

“Brian has fostered a positive culture in Jacksonville, complete with a highly motivated team that believes in the mission and principles that he established,” said Jennifer Lewis, senior vice president and regional director for Michael Baker’s Southeast Region. “Brian has transformed the way we interact with clients, from initial presentation of solutions to ongoing relationship-building, which is evident in the growth of client satisfaction we have seen. His performance and unwavering commitment to the company and industry makes him the ideal recipient of the ‘Top Young Professionals’ honor.”

Mr. Russell brings a longstanding passion for the aviation industry to the many airport improvement projects on which he has focused, including three runway rehabilitations for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority and various improvements at the Titusville Cocoa Airport Authority and Northwest Florida Regional Airport. His efforts have been recognized within Michael Baker with awards denoting his top performer status at the firm.

“Since joining Michael Baker as an intern nearly 14 years ago, I have grown both personally and professionally thanks to mentors who have preached a commitment to quality, client service and performance,” said Mr. Russell. “This honor from ENR affirms the work we have put in and will continue to put in to grow the Jacksonville market.”

Outside of his work at Michael Baker, Mr. Russell along with his wife and three children are active members of their church, where Mr. Russell serves as a member of the Board of Stewards, chair of the design and construction Building Committee, and as a youth group leader, among other responsibilities.

ENR profiled Mr. Russell and the other Top Young Professionals honorees in a recent edition of the magazine.
