Pittsburgh (February 16, 2017) - Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, today announced its partnership with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to provide a full range of environmental site investigation, compliance and environmental services. The company was recently awarded a three-year, $5 million contract to support SEPTA’s ongoing environmental initiatives across the region.
As part of the contract, the Michael Baker team will keep various SEPTA projects compliant with environmental regulations and assume the operation and maintenance of four sites currently operating under remedial action plans. This work includes routine monitoring and gauging of site groundwater, removal of light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) contaminants, maintenance of total fluid recovery systems and soil vapor extraction systems, and routine sampling events.
“Relying on unmatched environmental expertise, Michael Baker International will help SEPTA develop remedial action plans to bring a number of legacy sites that require remediation into compliance,” said Jess Anderson, project manager in Michael Baker International’s Fort Washington, Pa., office. “SEPTA is a valued client for Michael Baker and we have heavily invested in our people and services throughout our regional offices. From collaboration between environmental and construction service groups to the hiring and realignment of dedicated staff across multiple practices, Michael Baker is focused on helping SEPTA achieve its regional infrastructure goals.”
This is the second significant contract between Michael Baker and SEPTA in the past year. In August 2016, the firm announced a three-year, $8 million contract for general engineering, construction management and inspection services in support of a host of SEPTA projects designed to promote infrastructure growth throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Michael Baker has also previously worked on a number of SEPTA projects, including the Market Street elevated reconstruction, Crum Creek viaduct replacement, Stone Arch Bridges rehabilitation and various other improvements. Additionally, the company has supported projects along the Keystone Corridor, for which SEPTA is a significant stakeholder.
